At school 4 languages are spoken: Catalan, Spanish, English and French. While Catalan and Spanish are the school’s primary languages, we have recently launched an ambitious language project in which we will progressively increase the use of English, so that we become a fully trilingual school.

This project includes having native British teachers in our Kindergarten classes. Psychomotricity is also in English, as well as chess and violin lessons. Throughout Primary and Secondary school, English classes are divided in small groups in order to encourage immersion and conversation Science is also taught in English.

If students wish, they have the option to write their Secondary 4th grade Research Project in English, they will have additional monitoring and mentoring. Conducting this project in English will certainly enhance their level and fluency.

The school is an Examination Centre for Cambridge Exams (Exam Preparation Centre). This means that the school meets the requirements to host official exams, with displaced examiners for KET, PET and FCE (First. We prepare our students in Primary 6th grade and Secondary 2nd and 4th grade for these exams.

Furthermore, they can also get the certificate of proficiency in French DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française) A2 in ESO 3 and DELF B1 in ESO4.

The magnificent location of our school allows us to take school trips and themed outings easily. Our English teachers, who love the outdoors, take advantage of our location to teach students new vocabulary and phonetics throught fun activities.

Exchange

Secondary 3rd grade students participate in a student exchange program (Exchange program) with the Long Trail School in Dorset, Vermont (USA). For 15 days they attend classes in this high school, which is similar to our school, also located in the countryside. Students get to enjoy the beautiful landscape of Vermont, which borders Canada and is a renowned pioneer of ecological and sustainable culture.

Students are fully immersed in the language and culture of the United States, and stay at an American student’s home. A few months later, the same American students come to Alella and are hosted by our students’ families.

In Primary Education, we prepare many activities related to the English language. For example, we put on a theatre show, eat Fish & Chips, etc… We also hold a Science Fair, with ideas, activities and projects explained in English. We also go on a field to CosmoCaixa where we take a guided tour and participate in various workshops, all in English.
