On Saturday 16th April, the 12 students and their accompanying teacher from Long Trail School (Dorset, Vermont, USA) arrived at Barcelona’s airport after a long trip via Toronto. They were all welcomed by their Spanish families and a group of teachers from our school. The American students were tired but happy to be with their host families and very excited to find out about the way we live.
The exchange program started at the weekend because we thought it was important that the students got to know their host family before they started school. The families from our school are very keen on this experience and have planned different activities to do with the students during their stay. We would very much like to thank all these families who are making this exchange possible. We are very grateful to them and we are sure it will be an enriching and enjoyable experience for all.
Today a welcome banner was hung at the main gate and the American students were welcomed in the school theatre by the school principal and the ESO students. After Vinyet’s speech, the American students had the chance to introduce themselves to the rest of the students in secondary. Moreover, our 3rd and 4th of ESO students had the chance to get to know each other better, as they had prepared a potluck breakfast. They had the possibility to talk and share impressions about their first weekend in Spain, etc. Afterwards, they all headed to their classes; our visitors were now ready to start their Spanish experience at our school.
The students will be attending classes at our school for two weeks, in combination with some excursions to Alella and Barcelona. Some of these include a guided tour and concert at the Palau de la Música Catalana and a tour around Barcelona’s city center. The schedule for these two weeks has been adapted to our guests and we will also include them in the secondary school project we will be working on entrepreneurship. We hope they enjoy taking part in our daily lives and we are looking forward to continuing with this American experience in the future.
Welcome Long Trail School students! ¡Bienvenidos a Santa María del Pino! Benvinguts a Santa Maria del Pino!
